ABOUT MEI am currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in Gloucester Point, VA. My research focuses on the fisheries ecology, reproductive biology, and management of marine molluscs. Though originally from California, I completed my undergraduate education at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, where I was first immersed into the vibrant history and culture of fishing communities. I followed my passion for invertebrate fisheries science to VIMS, and my graduate research is focused on aspects of reproductive and feeding ecology in Atlantic sea scallops (Placopecten magellanicus). Outside of my research, I am committed to providing high-quality marine science education and outreach, and I have sought out opportunities in both formal and informal education from K12 to undergraduate students. As a queer scientist and educator, I am also passionate about increasing the visibility and representation of LGBTQ+ researchers in STEM. I currently co-coordinate Queer Grads, a social group designed to facilitate community building and create a safe space for queer graduate students at VIMS both on campus and in the local community.
